Shia Lebeouf was originally cast in the role Harry Styles plays in the film, but. Olivia Wilde stated in an interview with Variety that she fired him because he made filming difficult for her and the other actors. On August 26th, 2022, LaBeouf contacted Variety directly and, alongside a video in which Wilde can supposedly be seen pleading with the actor to stay on the production, shared a number of emails that he allegedly sent to Wilde which purported to show he actually quit the the film. He told Wilde in the emails that he was "a little confused about the narrative that I was fired. You and I both know the reasons for my exit. I quit your film because your actors and I couldn't find time to rehearse." He also sent screenshots of his text exchange with Wilde on that day about why he left. The video showed Wilde asking Shia to come back to the film, saying that Florence Pugh needs to "get her act together." After the video leaked, Pugh declined to do any more press for the movie.
